History

Bro. James Dunne was born on November 11, 1935, a middle kid of three siblings. As a Jesuit he was assigned as Director of the Ateneo de San Pablo, known as Liceo de San Pablo today. He was an English and Religion instructor and was initially trained as a nurse which reflects who he is, a man with good and kind heart… ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.

Inspired with Bro. Dunne’s passion to help other people, the Class ‘73 of Ateneo de San Pablo, supported by Class ’66, organized and established the Bro. James P. Dunne S.J. Scholarship Association, Inc. (BJDSA) and successfully started its operation on the 11th of February 2014. The BJDSA is an association that bestows opportunity for the less fortunate but deserving high school students to have access to good education. This was set-up to honor Bro. Dunne for his untiring and unselfish assistance to keep poor students in school while he was the School Director of the Ateneo de San Pablo. The scholarship fund will commemorate and relive this good deed of Bro. Dunne.

The Class ‘73 supported by Class ’66 initiated this scholarship and educational fund to tap on the generosity and the Ateneo spirit (Man for Others) among other members of the alumni, friends, and other similar organizations to donate and mobilize resources to support poor high school students in San Pablo City, Laguna. The Class ‘73 is in-charge of fund-raising, identification and evaluation of beneficiaries, and sustaining the scholarship fund and the program.
